After spending far too much of our club time in the back-alley basement of Shibuya, we decided to venture out and see how the posh-side of Tokyo was partying. While we though everyone in nightlife dressed in skinny jeans and flack-jackets, we arrived to a fashionable corner of Ginza surrounded in the golden-logos of Hermes, Gucci and Fendi. Home alas, we followed the Mao-red staircase of Insomnia promising drink, food, music and space. While we were only looking for drink and good music, our prospects were looking good as we observed two pair of new-season Louboutin heels following us into the club. At the entrance of the lounge is a mob of locals in varying degrees of hipster nightlife clothes, but far more dressy than we were expecting. About a third of the crowd is promptly escorted into the red-theme lounge leaving the other to fret in a chatter on Japanese. We advised the hostess of our reservation and quickly ushered to our cozy seating area no more than an elbow's distance from one of Japan's top pop artists. We had no idea who they were. Regardless, we observed to cutesy space with its bubbly bar accented by a backdrop of plush Sesame Street toys and pendant lighting. While the childish theme of the bar seems to contradict the sexy stylish of the low-flung loungers, mirrored walls and upstairs love lounge humping with its own DJ. The music includes Japanese pop anthems mixes with Rihanna, Michael Jackson and '80s pop by revolving house DJs.

Tips

The club also offers a dinner menu of Western specialties including homemade pastas, beef dishes and entree-size salads available till 2am.

Last Word

Ginza supper club popular with Tokyo's chic set of nightclub revelers and lounge vixens.
